Mitch Richmond was born on June 30, 1965, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He attended Boyd H. Anderson High School in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida, where he first made a name for himself as a standout basketball player before moving on to junior college and eventually Kansas State University.
Mitch Richmond is one of the purest scorers and most respected guards in basketball history. A Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame inductee, Richmond’s career spanned from a dominant college run at Kansas State to a decorated 14-year NBA career, leaving behind a legacy of consistency, scoring excellence, and championship success.
College Career (1986–1988)
After transferring from Moberly Area Community College, Richmond starred for Kansas State University from 1986 to 1988. He immediately made an impact as a prolific scorer and versatile guard:
1986–87 (Junior): 18.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists per game
1987–88 (Senior): 22.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists per game
During his senior year, Richmond led Kansas State to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament and broke the program’s single-season scoring record with 786 points. He was named a Consensus Second-Team All-American in 1988.

NBA Career (1988–2002)
Selected 5th overall in the 1988 NBA Draft by the Golden State Warriors, Richmond won the NBA Rookie of the Year (1989) as part of the iconic “Run TMC” trio with Tim Hardaway and Chris Mullin. He went on to become one of the most reliable scorers of the 1990s.
